Hippocampus guttulatus is a fish specie of the family of Seahorses. It is one of the seahorse species present in Europe and the Maditerranean.
They have a long snout and its length is more than a third of the length of the head, they bring bony tubercles in the body and the pectoral fin measure 15-18 radius, the dorasl fin measure 18-21 radius and a minuscule anal fin. The caudal fin which allows them attached on seaweeds and marine plants. Usually are yellow, green and reddish. The males can reach 15 cm in total length. They live between 3 and 5 years.
They live near the coast, in shallow waters, between 0'5 and 15 m and they hibernated at 30m. They distributed in subtropicals waters os the Atlantic Ocean est, Maditerranean and the Black Sea.
Seahorses eat small crustaceans, swallow whole prey because they have no teeth, and like no having estomach, they have to consume big amounts of food to compensate their digestion.
They relate between April October, the male and the female are intertwined with the tail, they make a weeding dance and female run trough the eggs to the father bag. The birth of seahorses seems to be tiring. Firmly grasping the tail on a support, rubs her bag against a shell or rock until they leave the young, with fractions of internal tissues.
